SAN FRANCISCO (26 January 1999) -- 42nd Street Moon, San Francisco's only company dedicated to the preservation of lost musicals, kicks off its 7th annual season with a fundraiser entitled 'A CENTURY OF MUSICALS -- 100 Years of Gems, Wild Cards and Fabulous Flops.' 'A CENTURY OF MUSICALS' fundraiser will be presented Feb. 18 - 21, 1999 at the New Conservatory Theatre Center, 25 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco. Showtimes are Thurs. and Fri. at 8pm, Sat. at 6pm, and Sun. at 2pm. Tickets are $30 and $35; all proceeds go to 42nd Street Moon. For tickets and information, the public may call 415/861-8972.

The cast for this convivial evening brings together several 42nd Street Moon audience favorites, including musical director Brandon Adams, Bill Fahrner, Lesley Hamilton, Greg MacKellan, Dyan McBride, Richard Pardini, Lisa Peers, Susan Powers, Corey Schaffer, and Catherine Sheldon in a delightful evening, presenting musical gems from 42nd Street Moon's past productions and other unearthed treasures, spiced with trivia and scandalous tidbits from the annals of musical theater. Special highlights include a salute to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Noël Coward, and a recreation by Richard Pardini of Bette Davis? ill-fated 1952 Broadway musical debut, 'Two's Company' (Bette actually fainted on her entrance, but assured the crowd she had fallen for them.

The entire second act will be a sequel to last year's event, devoted to 'Fabulous Flops.' In addition to the Bette Davis debacle, musical moments both sublime and surreal will be featured from Broadway turkeys like MACK & MABEL, GOLDILOCKS, THE GOLDEN APPLE, FADE-OUT, FADE-IN, and BAJOUR. In addition, singers will recreate 'You Are The One,' the notorious lesbian duet? which forced the closing of the ignominious VENUS IN SILK before it reached Broadway.
